Back to the 1920s – Governor’s Island

The Governor’s Island, which is close to lower Manhattan, hosts a 20s Jazz themed concert during the summer (which you can get to on a free ferry from Manhattan or Brooklyn). I ended up there by total accident, but luckily had my camera. Here are some personal favorites from the event.

Lady blowing bubbles. I love the interaction between her and the man to her left in this photo.

I was amazed at the level of intricacy of outfits, from hats down to the woven baskets that some of the people carried instead of bags.

Photographing this event was fun because the people were a) willing to be photographed, which is HUGE, and b) feeling completely uninhibited (maybe due to the garb).
On the left we have a tired ice cream vendor on a break; on the right…. a yoga pose?
