Wedding of Frances and Bob (Hamptons)

At the end of this summer I shot the wedding of Fran and Bob in the Hamptons! Fran was one of those brides who looks gorgeous before or after makeup.

SPECIAL NOTE: This wedding was since then featured in the Hamptons issue of WellWed magazine!

Getting her hair done. And looking nonchalantly gorgeous.

The girls – the nieces. Meet the fish-eye lens… I don’t think a photographer could be any more in love with their fish eye lens.

I liked how her large eyes played with the classical painting in the back of Fran.

Hello my fish-eye… we meet again.

Fell in love with color all over again.

Detail shots of the veil and the raspberry champagne (I think it was).

A classical trio that played prior to and during the ceremony.

For your tears of joy. A tray of napkins. I was especially excited because this wedding premiered (for me) the 85mm lense that turns the background into butter (if you have a wide apperture) and the fisheye lense, which I had a ton of fun using.

The bodyguards. Fran’s amazing brothers walking her down the grassy natural aisle.

Guests preparing for the bride to appear. I always like to throw my images out of order.

Introducing the almost mr. and mrs… and the 85mm lense that makes the background so smoooooooth.

The feet. How could I resist his white shoes?

A kiss. I was psyched when the bride asked me to add grain to all of my photographs, which are digital and shot by my Canon 5D mark II.

Fran and Bob picked this as their thank-you card for the guests, but in black and white!

Bingo… I actually had to combine two different shots to get this effect. If you have a range of light that is too large, the camera will always either underexpose or overexpose part of the image. To solve this, I first exposed for the sky (by meter-measuring it within my camera) and took the first picture. That made the sky turn out nice and blue, but the green part was almost black. I then took another shot where I exposed for the green part correctly, but this resulted in the sky being almost completely white. Later, in post production, I combined the two shots in Photoshop, and using ‘layers and masks’ I combined the saturated blue sky with the rich green, merging the two photos into one.

I love the intensity and the concentration of the little girl blowing bubbles over the pool.

Walking away. I did not have a whole lot of time to photograph the bride and groom alone, so most of the wedding was totally shot in a documentary style.

Mmm, but I do still love my black and whites.

Bob is listening to a speech of a guest at the wedding, with Fran just a little bit (a lot) out of focus.
