Wedding of Suhagi and Mehal (Princeton, New Jersey)

I photographed Suhagi and Mehal a few months ago and am so happy I’m finally getting a chance to share this with everyone. Suhagi (or “Sugi” as her friends called her) was worried that her hennah was all faded, since she got it done three days before the wedding. I personally thought it was intact, bright, and beautiful.

Here Suhagi is getting ready. This was the first of her two beautiful saris that she wore to her Bollywood-style wedding.

Suhagi was a breathtaking bride. I love it when a bride goes for big eyelashes :)

The saris were amazing. I think that out of the approximately 300 women who attended this wedding, I was one of maybe 2 women who was not wearing sarees or salwar kameez!

Suhagi was super calm and laid back on her wedding day. Very. If she wasn’t, however, I believe that it would be my job to try to get her there, otherwise the stress can affect and be seen on the pictures.

The bride lit up when the groom, Mehal, greeted her for a first look.

Walking away from me. Walking is something that even the most uncomfortable photography subjects are comfortable with.

The wedding was held in Princeton New Jersey at the Westin Hotel. This is right at the front. As I always say, you don’t need much for a great background. As long as you include what makes sense and leave out the non-sightly pieces of the background, you are all set for a great background.

This picture was the bride’s idea and I loved it! It is Suhagi’s hand in the middle of both hands of the moms’. The hennah and the bracelets really unite the two generations.

Photographing a wedding full of Indian clothes is a photographer’s dream. The salwar kameez looked stupendous with high heeled platform pumps.

Here Suhagi is surrounded by a sea of friends, each doing something different to help the bride get ready for the second time (in the second sari of the night).

The bride and groom’s entrance dance. I’ve purposely put them next to a picture of their wedding cake topper, where the sugar bride and groom are dressed exactly like them.

Guests going crazy to Bollywood and other type of dancing music.

The groom prepares a dance to entertain the bride with his groomsmen. After about 5 minutes of elaborate Bollywood steps, the men were joined by almost all the rest of the guests, whom there were a lot of.

This was during my small eating break when I came outside to sit on the stoop. The vegetarian food was absolutely delicious. I still dream about a certain dessert I tried there. :)
